I’m glad that I found that article about birth control to reblog before I wrote this, but I’ve been wanting to post about this for a while now. That article gives it backbone.
I’m lucky enough to only struggle with skin issues due to PCOS. This I am thankful for…but it still causes problems obviously. I have noticed that almost every female diagnosed (or assume to have) PCOS is just given birth control. I do not agree with this; yes, it helps keep many symptoms at bay but it does not help in the long run. I am currently on Yaz, but I plan to only be on Yaz for 6 months to let my body adjust and calm down from all the medications I was taking a few months ago.
Now, I’m not going to completely knock birth control, but like it said in the article the benefits max out at around 6 months anyway…so my assumptions from the beginning were right when doctors kept saying that “it’s fine.” Well, it’s not fine to depend on a synthetic hormone pill for the rest of your life. That’s harmful to your body, the environment, and may actually worsen PCOS.
This is why it’s important to do research and not just believe what doctors say. Birth control is a quick fix and a cover up…but at some point you must face the underlying issues head on. There are natural remedies out there without the side effects and that have more bodily benefits.
